Released Nov, 2020
This CD features Hannah Alkire of AE, and is a collection of deeper, more introspective pieces inspired and collected on AE’s recent travels and written during this time off the road. It’s based on the Iñupiaq concept of remembering the light in times of utter darkness and protecting that light, both in the physical and emotional realms of our beings. The Iñupiaq are an Inuit people in Utqiagvik (formerly Barrow, AK), high in the Arctic Circle, where Hannah’s great-great grandfather sailed to on a whaling ship and then stayed for the rest of his life. In summer 2019, Hannah and her son Zach took the trip of a lifetime to meet their family in Utqiagvik. That connection was life-changing and inspired several of the pieces on this CD.
This collection includes Hannah and Joe’s two sons, Alex on bass, percussion and keys and Zach on background vocals. Other guests include Celtic Harpist Thomas Loefke, original Riverdance fiddler Máire Breatnach, and Faroese fiddler Angelika Hansen, making this a collection of international notes.
